Community and partnerships

Qualify the opportunity

Use this play when local trust, professional relationships, or neighborhood visibility could reach the right homeowners in a way digital channels cannot. Consider it after the company's positioning, website, daily materials, and follow-up path are credible.

Do not join every association, buy every sponsorship, or create discounts simply to appear active. A relationship needs a clear audience, mutual value, owner, and learning goal.

Local visibility is relational

Remodeling is local and visible. Homeowners ask neighbors, designers, architects, real estate professionals, trade partners, and association members whom they trust. Jobsite signs, showrooms, home shows, and useful community participation can reinforce that trust, but permission, local rules, and the setting matter.

Treat advertising, directory entries, sponsorships, supplier credits, and editorial coverage as different things. Record the publication, issue, page, date, and relationship type. A public placement or rate card does not prove what anyone actually spent.

Choose an appropriate commitment

At the minimum level, keep business cards, consultation materials, showroom materials, and weather-safe jobsite signs current. Confirm homeowner permission and local sign rules. Join one relevant association, home show, or community event where the team can contribute useful expertise.

For a growing team, build a small partner set around shared clients or project moments. Designers, architects, specialty trades, local food businesses, and temporary-living providers may support education, referrals, or thoughtful client perks. Define what each side gives, how introductions work, and how disclosures are handled.

At an advanced level, test co-created education, targeted neighborhood outreach, or selected print and event placements. Compare fit and resulting conversations instead of assuming visibility equals demand.

Make the relationship ownable

Relationships & Reputation owns partner quality and ongoing care. Leadership approves strategic fit and resources. Positioning & Messaging reviews the promise. Content develops useful material. Organic confirms local identity. Measurement records source and outcomes. Get appropriate legal or professional review before referral fees, commissions, contests, or required disclosures.

Evidence that the relationship is useful

Track qualified introductions, source completeness, useful conversations, partner follow-through, and client feedback. Spam, hidden incentives, unclear consent, weak brand fit, or activity nobody owns are signs the relationship isn't serving either side well.

Record the audience, relationship type, owner, mutual value, cost or commitment, evidence source, and review date before adopting the play.
